Military monkeys are exactly what you’d expect: sniper monkey, helicopter, monkey submarine likewise magic monkeys are all the ones that use magic.
Basic are your old school towers from BTD1-3, dart monkeys, tack shooters, ice monkeys, bomb towers, everything except ninja monkeys and super monkey which are now magic. BTD6 divides monkeys into four categories: basic, military, magic and support. Now what exactly constitutes a “magic” attack can be a bit confusing. They’re one step above pink bloons but are immune to magic attacks. Necromancy also circumvents the new purple bloons, another mechanic meant to balance the wizard monkey.

Back in BTD5, there were two upgrade paths you could lock the apprentice into, either fire or lightning magic. Take for example the monkey apprentice, which is now just called the wizard monkey.
